The Art of Choosing the Best: Happiness, Creativity, and Conscious Living

Have you ever found happiness in the simplest of moments? In a cup of coffee, in a loved one’s smile, in the rays of sunlight filtering through the leaves?

Today I want to talk about how paying attention to details and simple things helps you live more mindfully and happily. I’ll share my creative journey and the philosophy that unites all my work. And perhaps each of you will find a reflection of your own life in these stories.

About myself and my work

My name is Evgeny. I dabble in various creative endeavors: photography, videography, handcrafting accessories and hats, writing poetry and music, creating custom greeting cards, and developing websites. And all this in addition to my day job in the office. All of this is united by one principle: attention to detail and a love of aesthetics as a conscious approach to life.

My path is a gradual expansion of forms of self-expression.

In my work, I’m demanding of the results. I don’t hand over a piece until I’m satisfied with it. In photography, I express my vision and strive to reveal the beauty of each person or subject, so that they see themselves or things in a way they haven’t seen before. I approach other mediums the same way: in handcrafts, the individuality and quality of every detail, be it an accessory or a hat, are important to me.

In poetry and music, I express my inner world and share what’s difficult to convey in words. In my handcrafted postcards, it’s important for me to combine aesthetics and message to support someone at a crucial moment, inspire them, or simply share beauty.

Even in website development, I strive for aesthetics and harmony—so that form and content work together and create a cohesive impression.

The more I was involved in creativity, the more I realized that inspiration comes not from rare victories, but from the simple things that surround us every day.

Happiness is in the simple

Happiness isn’t always about achievements or recognition. More often than not, it resides in the simple. We often wait for happiness “later.” But it can be found right here: when you’re sitting by the sea on a sunny day, reading a book, or walking in the park. When you’re spending time with your family. When you’re capturing moments in photos or videos. It’s in these moments that I feel the fullness of life. Sometimes I write about it in poetry. Here’s one of them.

Do you ever wonder why

Universe created skies?

Why were stars given light?

Maybe just to be admired?

Do you ever stop your run

To enjoy the wind and sun?

Maybe you should be the one

Who feels not like everyone?

Get away to meet the dawn,

Watch sunset before it’s gone

With ones you can count on.

Reclaim power to dream on.

Run your hand over the rye,

Drive to sea to feel the tide.

Strive for things adorn your life,

Don’t forget that you will die.

Between the choice to be bystander

Or be the own happiness defender,

I’d rather choose to hold an ember

And live the life I will remember.

One might ask: if happiness is so close, why don’t we often see it? I believe people don’t notice beauty in the details. This is where aesthetics matter.

The importance of aesthetics in life and creativity

For me, aesthetics are attention to detail and respect for what I and others create. I started making leather goods because I couldn’t find anything I liked. Everything available either didn’t reflect my taste or was too expensive. And what I liked was hard to find abroad.

I create belts, covers, cases, travel books, and so on from leather. It’s important to me that each piece isn’t just practical, but has character and feels special. It emphasizes individuality, “not like everyone else.”

Hats have played a special role in this journey. A hat is more than just a piece of headwear; it has character and history. I’ve always admired their aesthetic — their shape and lines have a distinctive expressiveness. They can emphasize individuality, add depth or, conversely, lightness to an image. When you look at old photographs, you realize that hats are symbols of entire eras, a sign of taste and style.

My first hat was an orange fedora. It wasn’t perfect for the first time (though everyone says otherwise), but I was happy because I’d created a unique piece that no one else had. It’s especially nice to hear compliments. Sometimes even strangers stop and ask about the hat.

Aesthetics is my way of saying, “slow down, notice, feel.” It lives in the details — and details are revealed to those who know how to slow down.

The Importance of Slowing Down and Mindfulness

The modern world constantly pushes us forward. We try to do more, but we lose the joy of life.

I remember traveling, when I tried to see as many selected places as possible. The result was many photos, but few memories. Later, I began to select fewer places, but to experience them more deeply — those are the moments that remain in my memory. When I think about such moments, I feel like I’m reliving them and filling up from within. No one can take them away from me, and I can share them.

Slowing down is an opportunity to live life, not just record it. It brings you back to the present and teaches you to see the value in every moment.

When you strive to live every moment, life becomes deeper. And it is this depth that I strive to infuse into my work. Because things made with attention and love resonate with others.

How creativity benefits and inspires others

In photography, I often hear people say, “I never noticed these details before.” After a shoot, someone admitted they saw themselves differently. One comment particularly stuck in my mind:

This is my first solo photo shoot, and I’m so glad I did it with Evgeniy. It turned out exactly how I needed it to! It was such an emotional reset. You know how to make people happy!

Leather Goods

My accessories are purchased for themselves and given to family and friends for birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions. And I value the fact that they accompany people, that they imbue them with special memories and are given as gifts for important occasions. Here’s a review of the traveler diary:

This is my favorite of all the leather goods I own! I enjoy taking the time to write down thoughts and paste photos into it. It contains the most wonderful moments of my life.

Postcards

Even a simple postcard can be more supportive than long phrases. I’ve made messages like “hang in there” or “after the storm, there’s always light.” People have said these cards have given them support and warmth during difficult times.

Poetry and Music

Through poetry and songs, I share my inner world. One comment I remember: “Your work is kind and warm… 'You can only find happiness within.' It’s a state of the heart that no one and nothing can influence.”

And this, perhaps, is the most important thing: the benefit of creativity isn’t just material. It’s the feeling of attention, support, and inspiration. It could be a photograph that helps you see things differently. An accessory that becomes part of an image and a story. A postcard that gives you strength. Or a poem that reminds you of the value of simple things.

Creativity isn’t about things. It’s about the feelings they evoke. When someone smiles while holding my creation, or discovers a new side of themselves in a photograph — that’s true value.

We can only inspire others when we ourselves are empowered. For me, that means books, practice, and experience.

The importance of continuous self-development

But to share attention and support through creativity, I must first fulfill myself. And here, constant development plays a huge role.

Books

I read mostly things that help me better understand myself and life: psychology, non-fiction, biographies. Not for entertainment, but for the sake of benefit. Such books help not only find answers but also ask the right questions.

Practices

I try to be mindful of myself: meditation, mindfulness practice, yoga, stretching, physical exercise. But the most important thing is daily self-reflection. Every evening, I keep a journal, summing up the day: what I learned, what I’m grateful for, what I want to remember.

Kaizen Hour

One of my tools is “kaizen hour.” It’s a time I set aside for conscious reflection: stopping, looking back on the day, noting my small steps, and understanding what can be improved. This practice helps me maintain focus while simultaneously living in harmony with myself.

Self-development

I believe in constant learning. But learning is valuable not in itself, but when it can be applied. Therefore, I choose courses that provide specific tools: photography and video — to discover new expression techniques; development and productivity — to manage time and energy more effectively; financial management — to give freedom and confidence in the future. Artificial intelligence — opens horizons and allows you to combine creativity with modern tools. All this together helps you not just know more, but live more consciously and act more effectively.

Self-development is needed not for the sake of knowledge, but for the quality of life. To live each day more deeply, mindfully, and meaningfully. To not simply exist, but to live consciously, to see beauty and share it with others.

But if you don’t look back and appreciate what you already have, the path becomes empty; it will all be just a run. Gratitude makes the journey meaningful.

Gratitude

My daily ritual is a gratitude practice. Every evening, I ask myself, “What am I grateful for today? What have I done toward my goal? What do I want to remember?”

We often overlook or fail to notice seemingly simple, yet priceless, moments that enrich us immeasurably. Pictures from grandma that she sends in the morning. A message from mom telling you she loves you. A message from dad wishing you a good day. The breakfast your wife made you, and when you open the lunchbox, you see she’s packed some treats and a flower. Someday, these things may not happen, and some don’t have them at all—it’s important to appreciate the present.

Happiness is like a photograph: to see beauty, you need to stop and focus on the moment. If you’re constantly moving, the shot will be blurry.

Conclusion

Creativity is a way to share my philosophy. It can be seen in photographs, accessories, postcards, music—in everything I do. You can find it all on my website.

Behind this story lies one simple idea: happiness is within reach. It’s in the details, in the little moments, in gratitude for what you already have. And the more attentive we are to life, the deeper and happier it becomes.

And finally, I want to help you become a little happier right now. To do this, reflect on what moment in your life you remember most often — the one that always warms you and makes you smile?

Then, imagine you have just one chance to thank someone close to you. Who would you thank — and for what exactly?

This is happiness and your greatest treasure. And no one in this world can take it away.
